

Paradoxical, and a little frustrating – especially if you are keen to get a glimpse of what you're meant to be running away from. There is a strange paradox in that the only way to stop the relentless onslaught of the Slender Man is to look at him, but if you look at him for too long you will die. The sense of threat and anticipation is built upon through the clever use of soundscapes.

While there is an element of fear to the game, the sense of challenge is diminished by the fact that there is only one enemy to avoid – and the original Slender Man stories are far more terrifying than anything game manages to conjure up. There are effectively eight levels to work through and there is no real variety in what you need to do - the difficulty level just increases. Yes, there is the element of suspense to make things a little more interesting, but at its heart, this is an incredibly simple game with very limited gameplay. The atmosphere and simplicity of the gameplay is what makes this game so scary and effective.Unfortunately, to cut to the chase, it's a bit boring. It doesn't try to gross you out and use jump scares to get a reaction out of you. Is it one of the most effective horror games in recent memory? Yes. Is Slender the scariest game ever made? No. This increases the tension and makes the game all the more terrifying. 0.9.7 is easily the most complete version but does not have the 20 mode due to copyright issues. Each one has some minors differences to them. This includes all the official builds released (not counting any alpha builds that are sadly lost at the time of writing). You are unarmed and you have no way of defending yourself if Slenderman catches you. This game is scary because that's all it goes for. What makes this game so compelling is the atmosphere. As mentioned before, you are in a forest and you have to find eight notes that are scattered around the forest. The gameplay is where this game truly shines. With low end graphics and almost no plot, what makes tis game so special? All you know is that you're stuck in a forest, you have to find eight pages that gives you insight into Slenderman, and you have to avoid looking at Slenderman or you'll die. The environment is mostly the same: You're in a park that's filled with trees and you'll come across a few gates and bathrooms. They are very basic and can run on even some of the lower end gaming PCs. There isn't a whole lot to say when it comes to graphics of Slender: The Eight Pages. Is it truly that scary or is it just full of hot air? The game went on to become known as one of the scariest games in recent memory.
